Pincushion Cactus

Pincushion Cactus

Its hard to get perspective from this photo but this group of pincushions are in total perhaps 40 centimetres tall. Their burst of colour popped out at me on a back country hike in the Catalina Mountains. In six hours of walking I came across perhaps 5 or 6 of these plants and they were the only one’s flowering a the time. Rare little beauties.

    1. Glad you like it! They are such a surprise to find out in the desert because at the time I photographed this plant it was one of only about 5 or 6 I spotted in the space of a 6 hour walk and only they were flowering… it was a little like finding treasure amongst the rocks and dust.
