I watched an excellent documentary a couple of nights ago, narrated by Meryl Streep, called Wings of Life (http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_embedded&v=_VRvhFLRCk0), about the ingenious ways flowers lure winged creatures (birds, bees, bats and butterflies) to spread their pollen.
The macro photography is astonishing (there are shots from inside the flowers … hats off to cinematographer!) and this makes it an engaging visual feast… though after a 6 hour canyoning hike down the Catalina Mountains it was a bit of struggle to not drift off to the lullaby of Meryl’s dreamy voice which was a bit like taking a warm bath for the mind.
Anyway in tribute to flowers everywhere here’s a macro shot of a flower, from a meaningful bunch presented to me by my kids, after arriving from my 5 day solo drive across the USA a little over a month ago.
Since moving to Tucson I’ve done a lot of hiking and mountain biking and taken a stack of photos which I will be sharing soon! I promise. 🙂
